A wealth of literature that addresses every aspect of wildlife and wildlife biology can be found in libraries, bookstores or on the Internet. These resources provide information for rehabilitators, researchers, educators and other professionals who strive to understand, to conserve and to care for wild species.

Field guides are extremely valuable resources. They provide information on identification, habitat, natural foods, breeding and more. Field guides can be purchased at most book stores.

Journals publish research articles and may include columns, letters, news and reports. Many libraries (especially school libraries) carry journals, but they are not usually found in bookstores. Some journals are a benefit of membership (organization or society), while others are available by subscription only. Increasingly, journals are publishing online versions. Some are free of charge, but most require membership or subscription. Most publishers of journals use websites to list and describe their publications. Some offer free sample issues, some offer free downloads of articles from back issues, some provide abstracts only, and others provide only indexing and descriptions.

Magazines may be found in some school libraries and bookstores, but many are by subscription only. There are some magazines published on the internet. Generally, online magazines are free of charge.

Manuals for wildlife rehabilitators are usually available only through organizations. Most manuals are self-published and quality and information can vary tremendously, thus we list only manuals that have undergone the peer review process.

Newsletters provide information, short articles, reports and events calendars. Often, they are a benefit of membership to an organization or society, but increasingly, newsletters can be found on websites.
