In some parts of the world, wildlife rehabilitators require specialized
training as a condition of permit, while in others no special skills
are required.
Regardless of whether training is or is not required by law, rehabilitators
work with living, feeling animals that need specific care and handling.
Classes or seminars in basic or advanced rehabilitation skills
are available and should be considered by any individual who intends
to work with wildlife.
To learn more about organizations and centres that offer formal
and informal training, choose a topic from the In Focus menu on
the right side of this page.
Wildlife
rehabilitation involves an understanding of many areas of science.
To broaden your base of knowledge, you may want to consider attending
classes at a local school to learn more about your particular areas
of interest. Continuing education classes in biology, chemistry,
zoology, ornithology, etc. will give you a more complete understanding
of the animals in your care, and the challenges they face in their
environment.
