The purpose of Wildlife International is threefold:
- to provide information to the general public and those interested
in finding out more about wildlife and wildlife rehabilitation.
To provide people unfamiliar with wildlife rehabilitation support
services should there be an emergency that requires a wildlife
agency or rehabilitation organization.
- to provide general interest information, WI site support information
and IWRC contact information. To provide rehabilitation groups
with a forum for getting information on interesting and/or fundraising
events out to those who may be interested.
- to provide resources to wildlife rehabilitators.

(it's a very long list!) Click on the Theme links to find
out about the animal that was selected for each theme.
This area of the site is aimed at those who are either interested
in finding out more about wildlife and the environment, or who have
had an encounter with wildlife and need to find out more. It will
also be helpful to people who have found an injured animal, or who
have witnessed what they believe may have been an infraction of
wildlife law.
Emergency: This section is the very
first link on Wildlife International, and it is intended for people
who have a human/wildlife conflict, have witnessed or suspected a
wildlife infraction, or who have an injured or orphaned animal requiring
professional care.
In the main section of the page Help files cover Animal in Crisis,
Illegal Activity, Environmental Hazard, and Conflict/Nuisance. These
Help sections will help determine whether there is in fact a crisis
that needs immediate attention.
On the left navigation bar, Frequently Asked Questions on Rehabilitation,
Wildlife Solutions and General Wildlife answer close to 300 of the
most commonly-asked questions. Both Help and FAQ sections link to
Agency and Rehabilitator search databases as necessary, to assist
you in finding help in your province/state or country.
Emergency Theme

Agencies: Information about state/provincial,
federal and international wildlife agencies. It covers many of the
laws and treaties governing wildlife, wildlife crime, wildlife careers
and includes a book section on wildlife agencies. Perhaps the most
important feature of this section is the searchable database of more
than 200 agencies worldwide. Agency Theme
Wildlife and You: Interacting with wildlife
in your day-to-day life. Covers attracting wildlife to your backyard,
conflict solutions, safety, organizations, and a book section. Wildlife and You Theme
Wild Places: As our populations expand,
wild places become harder to find, and as we urbanize we get further
away from them - physically and psychologically. This section covers
biodiversity and ecosystems, has a book section, and a searchable
database of wildlife refuges. Wild Places Theme
Birding: Fortunately, this is one of
our most popular pastimes. There are wonderful birding resources on
the Internet, and this section points you toward some of the best.
We talk about benefits of birding, rare bird alerts, identification
aids, birding organizations, favoured sites, birding gear, and we
also have an extensive book section. Birding Theme
Ecotourism: Ecotourism was offered
as a possible solution to many of the problems with endangered species.
Although the phenomenon did not quite live up to the promise, ecotourism
has proven value, and has helped bring species back from the brink.
Sections include choosing ecotours, success stories, eco-news and

Pet Lovers: The lore of pets is closely
tied to the lore of wildlife. People who truly enjoy their pets probably
also enjoy wildlife. We look at some of the issues: choosing a pet,
supplies, breed rescue and animal shelters, pet health, wildlife issues
and a book section. Pet Lovers Theme
Just For Kids: Our consuming society will
leave our children and grandchildren with an enormous responsibility.
It is critical that we get kids interested in wildlife, and that they
learn to see it not as something alien, but as part of who they are,
and part of what defines our own species. We point kids at excellent
resources, including kidsites, kid-zines, wildlife jobs and interesting
books. We also provide a homework wizard, and some ideas on how to

A very generic section where we pick up all the things we didn't
get elsewhere! General Theme
Sponsorship: In spite of the fact that
many of the chores on the site are automated, it will still require
a lot of maintenance to keep it dynamic and timely. We need your help
to do that.
Events: Although perhaps misplaced in
this General section, we didn't want to leave the impression that
this feature was strictly for rehabilitators. This extensive section
is for wildlife rehabilitators, rehabiltation centres, and wildlife-related
organizations and agencies to provide information on upcoming events,
like conferences, symposiums, training, seminars, meetings, social
events and presentations.
Shopping: This feature will pull together
many of the features from other parts of the site, as well as provide
additional features. We provide many types of environmentally friendly
product links, and an extensive literature database. We also provide
shopping links to products that are sold strictly for the purpose
of raising money for wildlife and wildlife care.
This is by far the most extensive section of our site, and in fact
is a whole web site onto itself. We hope it will become the primary
Internet resource for wildlife professionals. All sections of the
site have been carefully reviewed for accuracy, and represent the
current state of knowledge about wildlife and wildlife rehabilitation.

Theme
Permits: Most
countries protect wildlife, and only allow interaction with wildife
under certain conditions, and only under permit or licence. We explore
some of the issues.
Administration: An extensive section covering
every aspect of wildlife rehabilitation administration - for backyard
rehabilitators or large centres. Everything from hiring a director
to the various type of fundraising is covered. This is a very valuable
section, and it points the reader at some important and informative
resources.
Education: Training, internships and
exchange programs that are available to wildlife professionals, or
those seeking to become so.
Resources: An extensive section covering
journal, magazine, newsletter and website resources in 10 of the most
important wildlife rehabilitation and education areas.
Wildlife Care: This is the core of our web
site! There are literally hundreds of static and dynamic pages on
Zoonoses, Medical Care, Care & Feeding, Caging & Housing,
Identification, Anatomy, Physiology, Psychology & Behaviour, Capture
& Restraint, Release and Long Term Care, Education Animals.
Supplies: At site-startup, our supplies
database contained 160 entries, and we had 100 entries in our supplier
database. Topics covered include Caging and Housing, Capture Equipment,
Foods & Feeding Implements, Incubators, Lights, Manuals, Medical
Supplies, Microscopes & Accessories, Optical Supplies, Scales
and Vitamins & Supplements.
Environment: A wildlife rehabilitator
must be familiar with the natural environment of the animals in care.
Releasing an animal into the wrong environment can be disasterous.
Topics include Biodiversity, Global Warming, Habitat, Spill/Disaster
Response, Pesticides and Pollution.
Wildlife Vet: Wildlife veterinary medicine
is a growing field. We provide current resource sources in the areas
of general information, organizations, literature, textbooks, and
training and internship opportunities.
Related Fields: We explore the wildlife-related
fields of botany, entomology, herpetology, ichthyology, mammalogy,
ornithology and zoology.
IWRC Hotline: We discuss the IWRC Online
Hotline, a resource for wildlife rehabilitators, and we list the different
hotline teams.
Conferences: A list of some of the more
important wildlife conferences.
Notices: This section will alert rehabilitators
to changes in commercial formulae, calls for assistance in wildlife
emergencies, and other important notices to the wildlife community.
